So, how are your New Years Resolutions or your yearly goals going? Have you failed yet? I have.
One area that I’ve failed at already is weight loss. My weight dipped down to 235 lbs on Monday, January 28th, which is down from 271 lbs on Nov. 1, 2013. I knew I was on course to make my goal of losing 12 lbs. in January, which would put me at 233.
Another goal I had was to quit smoking by February 1st. February starts on a Saturday and since that is a weekend I decided to quit on the last Monday of January. (I work a lot on weekends and play music in smokey bars so I figured I needed a couple days head start before the weekend).
I spent most of Monday in bed going through nicotine withdrawal. Tuesday and Wednesday were a little better but I was easily distracted. I didn’t work out as hard, I ate a little more and I didn’t write or do anything with my business. It seemed as though the first four days of this week were a waste except for I quit smoking. I also gained 6 lbs! Son of a Bit*&.
That’s the way it goes. Sometimes there is a setback and you can let that kick your ass and stay down or you can move on. So I decided to get back up and relate the set back to a football season.
How To Get To the Superbowl
The Denver Broncos won 6 games then lost to the Indianapolis Colts. The Seattle Seahawks won 4 games before losing their first game of the season. Both teams won their next game. You see, they didn’t let one loss define or defeat them. They put that loss aside and worked their asses off to win the next game and they both did. (Interestingly, both teams first loss was to the Colts).

When a team loses 2 in a row they are on a losing streak. But the fact is the losing teams are the ones that stay in the losing streak. The winners put the past behind them and get back to the grinding, daily work that makes teams, businesses and people successful. So today is Friday and I am writing and getting back to the grind. I hit the gym early and my nutrition is on par. I haven’t smoked in 4 days and I will start my running regimen today. Because that is how winning is done. You fall down, then you get right back up. [Tweet “”that is how winning is done. You fall down, then you get right back up.”]
